Before Nin embraced infamy, he was the most trusted warlord of the Fell King Shakha’Sparr — honoured as Godfather to the King’s daughter, Llyta, and sworn to her protection above all else. But at the enticement of the human Dread Witch Gruoch, Nin murdered his liege, led a coup to seize the throne, and sacrificed Llyta to the Deep Lords to secure their favour. This final act of betrayal ensured the failure of his coup and cursed his soul in the eyes of both God and Mortals alike.

Driven from power, Nin sought shelter in the poison farmlands of the Wastes — a refuge of exiles, convicts, and souls awaiting death. Bonded by cursed fate and a relentless hunger for power, Nin and Gruoch refused to accept their end. But when Llyta’s ghost began haunting Gruoch, driving her to madness, a death spell meant to destroy the spirit backfired catastrophically — leaving Gruoch’s mind and spirit trapped inside a rotting, decaying body, unable to communicate.

Unable to leave Gruoch or end his own suffering, Nin wanders the Crucible with his monstrous family in tow — desperately seeking a cure and the power he once held among the Saurian tribes. All the while, Llyta’s spirit guides and compels him — not with vengeance, but with the same love she carried in life. She knows, in sadness, how this quest will both fulfil and destroy him.
